“To me, it’s all ‘extended sculpture’”
“What I care about most in my work is the ideality that coalesces behind apparent reality.” This statement is not by Josef Dabernig, but one can let it stand because he meticulously wrote it down himself—as he also did an entire book on Beauty and Digestion. Photographic panoramas of football stadiums, closed shelving units, a “Walking Film” … Dabernig’s oeuvre is shot through with idiosyncratic and in part quite funny rituals of defiance, noteworthy systems that stand in opposition to an order that is supposedly “half of life itself.”
