“A collective is always more than the sum of its members”
That exhibition on the Communist Manifesto with which the collective WHW made waves in 2000: How would it look today? With the establishment Nova Galerija in Zagreb, curators Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić, and Sabina Sabolović created one of the most important exhibition spaces for Eastern European art. Since then, they have also been represented with increasing prominence in the “Western” context—and ever since 2019, they’ve been working at Kunsthalle Wien with regard to the following somewhat touchy question: How might one implement social and institutional critiques at a public institution?
