Wolfgang Kos

Wolfgang Kos, Vienna, 13 June 2022

“I dream of infinitely long desks.”

Beginning in the late 1960s, the Viennese historian and journalist Wolfgang Kos successively co-founded legendary radio formats such as “Musicbox,” “Popmuseum,” “Diagonal,” and “Spielräume” at Austria’s national public broadcaster ORF. He went on to contribute vital new curatorial impulses as director of the Wien Museum with exhibitions like “The Struggle for the City.” Kos selected the underground parking garage at Vienna’s ERSTE Campus for his KONTAKT portrait, in which he sits in front of a Škoda from Roman Ondak’s installation “SK Parking” and holds forth about the many ways in which Eastern European art has been ignored in Vienna, about his role model Harald Szeeman, and about unrealized exhibitions.
