On 25 October 2024, the new building of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie/MSN Warsaw) at the center of town will be officially inaugurated. American architect Thomas Phifer’s design, selected from an international field of competition entries, will henceforth characterize the institution, which was founded in 2005. On display will be selected works from the museum’s collection by artists such as Alina Szapocznikow, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Monika Sosnowska, Cecilia Vicuña, and Sandra Mujinga. The inaugural exhibition will be joined by concerts and performances as well as by all-night film screenings in the museum’s new cinema. The opening event will offer a foretaste of the first showing of the MSN Warsaw collection, planned to open on 21 February 2025.
Kontakt will continue its long-term institutional partnership with the MSN Warsaw by presenting reenactments of dematerialized works during the initial days on which the building is open to the public. This project serves to foreshadow the next steps in the collaboration between Kontakt and the MSN Warsaw, which will be realized in the form of exhibitions and loans starting in 2025.
