Grounded Sun. Design for an urban intervention
/1
From the early 1970s onwards, Ivan Kožarić increasingly developed proposals for interventions in the cityscape, mostly for specific exhibitions or in response to various calls for proposals. Public space was of interest to Kožarić as an interface between the private and public, as a site of encounters. He underlined this with a comment that his proposals aimed to express intimacy between people or between an individual and the city. “Grounded Sun,” a gold-colored fiberglass sphere of roughly two meters in diameter was placed on the Marshal Tito Square in front of the National Theater in Croatia and rapidly became the target of iconoclastic attacks.
