For the work “no title,” Marcus Geiger covers the floors of the exhibition space with material used to protect the interiors of building sites, such as masking paper or masking tape, thus confusing the distinction between areas of the building devoted to different activities. His project confronts the longing for purity, simplicity and openness. “no title” reflects on the sanitizing dictates of museum conservation, which as such, isolate the work from its host environment. On the one hand, his installation criticizes the ideology of conservation, and on the other, it prevents the project from leaving its trace of interfering with the building and its designated spaces.
