"Word“ is from the early years of Natalia LL’s artistic career when, in her multiple theoretical statements, she stressed that what matters is registering the transformation of one activity into another. The work depicts an act of formulating a word in a temporal sequence, but does it in such a way that the word remains unrecognizable. Formulating a word here is an act of a woman “simply” assuming the role of a speaking subject, but not of saying something particular. However, the photos seemingly registering feminine speech in fact just show the woman’s appearance, emphasizing her slightly open but silent lips. As if her voice could not be heard. As if her representation had to remain within the domain of eroticism. A.J.
