Poor Woman

A subversive yet not overtly political mode of dealing with monumentality and representation can be seen in Ivan Kožarić’s projects that caricature traditional monuments. Rather than referencing the type of figures conventionally honored, some projects were for example dedicated to a barmaid (“Monument to a Barmaid,” 1972), and to a “Poor Woman” (1973), a small bronze cast of which has been used as a model for the artist’s sketches and visualizations.
