With the Collection
/7
“With the Collection” is a work operating as a display dispositive that is not bound to a specific spatial situation but can be adapted in accordance with the given circumstances. With this work, David Maljković addresses the essence of the Kontakt Collection as a communication tool that functions via the presentation of artworks. His work establishes temporary relations with a given environment—be it an office, a bookshop, or the lobby of a museum or some other institution. As a display module, it asserts the collection’s physical presence in various newly formed situations, adapting to the space while also generating tension with its surroundings. The function of this proposed work has less to do with presenting the collection in an adequate way or firmly establishing its coherence than it does with hinting at a fact (as opposed to an artifact)—this fact being the very presence of the collection, which is presented on platforms that are modified in relation to the given space. In doing so, however, it refrains from adhering to classical display modalities used in galleries; instead, Maljković focuses on the space’s inadequacies as he establishes a relationship between it and the collection by means of his artistic intervention.
