TV Face

The performative video “TV Face” was shot in collaboration with Tomasz Samosionek as video and camera operator. Robakowski can be viewed on a TV monitor as he gives instructions on how he should be filmed, with the picture containing his entire head or close-ups of his lips while speaking. The TV set functions as an interface between him and the camera operator. In this way, the artist probes the technical parameters of video as did many of his colleagues who were likewise experimenting with video art during the 1970s. This performance consists of a parallel action that reveals the camera footage on the monitor at the same time as it is being recorded. The artist thus interacts simultaneously with his own image on the monitor and with the camera operator, enforcing a triad of image realities that intertwines the real self, the filmed self, and the real-time visual rendering of the self on the screen.
