In Friederike Pezold’s work, fragments of the body appear in multiple photographic “cutouts” and video segments arranged in terms of the female physique. For the photographic versions of her video-derived body-images, Pezold arranged two or three different frames printed on photo paper and mounted them on white paper in either vertical or horizontal arrangements. The serial images in a given piece differ from each other, some more and some less, in a way that refers to the filmic, time-based procedure of their making. A highly interesting aspect of these montages lies precisely in the temporal and spatial gaps that become visible, with a fragmented body doubling back on an ever-fragmented gaze. S.E.
