The work “I Repeat” can be viewed as a performative gesture carried out over several years. Boris Demur originally carried out this action as a text written on a 6 x 4 m piece of white canvas at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Philosophy and repeated it at Galerija Nova. For these performances, he repeatedly wrote the words “I Repeat” in black felt-tip pen, working his way sideways and downward all day long in order to fill the entire available space, thereby making the piece of canvas entirely his own. This amounted to the employment of a tautological formula in that he synchronized the process of his performative intervention with the words’ meaning and their physical and textual representation. In addition to these performative actions carried out in public, Demur also produced drawn versions on classic A4-format paper. W.S.
