Time Light Support and Space
/1
This work by Boris Demur exhibits all of the components that were typical of his practice during the 1970s. The Croatian phrase written in felt-tip pen on A4-format paper states the following: “Time, light, support, and space are united in this work through each inscribed black letter.” Via the content of what he writes, Demur expresses the essence of what is seen or meant to be seen. The act of writing, as a performative gesture, relates to the physical parameters necessary for the creation of the work, with the black script accomplishing the absorption of light that is necessary in order to establish a textual and visual relationship. The artist thus references a tautological system of thought and visuality that is embodied in the conceptual aspects of his work. W.S.
