The film “Sfaira” takes into account the geometry of the Earth and the Sun and refers to the Pythagorean astronomical system in which the Earth, Moon, and Sun revolve around an unseen “central fire.” This fire or glistening light in the form of a circle provides this film’s starting point, featuring as an incandescent ball that turns out to be a reflection on the public art sculpture "Earthbound, or Grounded Sun" created by Ivan Kožarić in 1971. This bronze sphere, which measures two meters in diameter, was formerly displayed in front of the Croatian National Theatre and has been situated on downtown Zagreb’s Bogovićeva Street since 1994. The interrelationship between sun, sphere, ball, and light is followed throughout the film, with people gathering around the sculpture and the earth or ground being mirrored against the sky in the bronze object’s shiny surface. Light, geometry and reflection are thus treated as forms of motion, leading the artist to renounce any sort of sound in favor of the object’s activating potential that progresses over the course of the film.
