Rolle - 2
/5
The film “Rolle-2” is from a series and represents the second roll of film that was shot; the first roll was lost. As in many instances, Dietmar Brehm features his wife, showing a cropped filmic analysis of her facial expressions. The film alternates between this facial representation and the bodily contours of a man, who holds a phone receiver connected to its cord in one hand while simultaneously blowing up and contracting his belly. In between, there are brief shots of flowers—which were actually filmed out of a catalog and appear only as ephemeral sequences. In general, this film questions the senselessness of everyday gestures that people perform without being aware of their actual meanings. W.S.
