Paths
/1
This work from the series “Paths” is one of the early ones in which Lois Weinberger observed structures found in nature and employed painterly abstraction to transform them into patterns derived from the structures of plants and trees. These works take on various shapes and have been developed over the decades in various formats including ones intended for exhibition contexts. In this particular work, Weinberger took pieces of tree bark and directly transferred their textures onto paper using a frottage/offset technique. He thus employed elements of nature and turned them into objects of artistic gestalt. W.S.
