“Art for the artists—not for institutions” is a loudly unspoken but indeed existing “Boschist” concept, in which everyday life functions as an artistic document. Here, combining the procedures of a film as an experiment and a document, Slavko Matković seems to confront two principles employed by the Group: the work as a minimal visual intervention in the environment and the work as the behavior (presence) of the artist. Unfamiliar with all of filmmaking’s technical aspects, Matković exploited the potentials of the medium primarily in order to promote his own output’s conceptualist proposition, in keeping with Marshall McLuhan’s famous maxim, “The medium is the message.” N.M.
