The creation of art as such is an essential element of Denisa Lehocká’s existence, which she characterizes as “breathing”. Drawing is a fundamental and, one might say, automatic activity of hers. She produces drawings not as artifactual commodities but rather as side effects, spontaneous byproducts of that ongoing “breathing”. There is no division between preparatory (for larger works, complex installations, etc.) and final (standalone). So instead of “being”, her drawings are honest domains of permanent and infinite “becoming”. Her semi-abstract drawings are processual mirrorings of neurological (somatic) and existential (psychic and mental) corpuscles intertwined in the context of certain overall poetics. She uses traditional materials such as sketchbooks, pencils, inks, and acrylic paints. She penetrates, perforates, and embroiders sheets of paper in the formats of A5, A4, A3 and A2. Her drawings amount to both collages and small paintings. B.O.
