Since the very beginning, Jiří Valoch’s own artistic activities have developed side by side with his curating activities and theoretical interests. Both of these domains are characterized by common features. A basic concept governs the frequency of conceptual opposites and lexes in his poetry as well as his recurring interpretations of artworks in terms of contrasts, opposites, topological arrangement, and suspense between a given artwork’s components. An example of Valoch’s application of his own terminology to his own art is his use of the term “Valoch’s golden ratio” (for his positioning of words on a page): localized in the horizontal center of an A4-format page, ca. 2cm above its vertical halfway point. Its location stems from the positioning of a page turned on the cylinder of a Consul typewriter such that its mutual ends are symmetrically connected. J.P.
