Africa has become an atoll. Drago Dellabernardina

Drago Dellabernardina was a close collaborator with the OHO group and was known most notably for his artwork “This Underpass is Exhibited by Drago Dellabernardina.” “Africa Has Become an Atoll” is part of a series of Drago Dellabernardina's silkscreen prints that includes notable works such as “The Creation of the Yugoslav Coast” and “The Melting of Snow and Ice in Yugoslavia.” This series carries a strong political undertone and must be understood within the context of the Yugoslav zeitgeist of the 1960s. For instance, in “The Melting of Snow and Ice in Yugoslavia,” he highlighted Yugoslavia’s liberalization (with the melting ice symbolizing the softening of the regime) during the 1960s. In a similar vein, “Africa Has Become an Atoll” points to Yugoslavia’s role in the Non-Aligned Movement and to the significant part it took in the decolonization of Africa. L.S.
