“Man-Bomb” is a photomontage produced by multiplying a human model. The naked figure of Zbigniew Libera is set in a structure resembling a stained glass window. The title alludes to the usage of human beings in warfare. The vulnerable male model is placed within a bomb, treating the body as a weapon. Zofia Kulik thereby shows how the rule of discipline uses bodies to performatively exert power over other human beings. This work is characteristic of Kulik’s output dealing with the language of totalitarian propaganda, with the multiplied male figure becoming a metaphor for a society subject to sadistic rule. D.M.
