Caprice 2

“Caprice 2” is a film that appears to show the record of a number of chance encounters. The camera first registers the artist standing in front of a bus. Jolanta Marcolla is subsequently approached by random individuals who have been asked to pose with her. She appears to be a person with whom the others have been asked to appear in commemorative photos from a trip. But instead of a still camera, it is a 16 mm film camera that is being used—which allows her to capture the entire situation and the roles played by each of the people. The short takes here allow the viewer to compare the poses. This film thus becomes a sociological experiment involving reactions to the camera. D.M.
