“Dimension 2” documents an action realized at the regional TV station in Łódź for which the artist produced a whole series of different interventions. Marcolla used the direct nature of the video medium to arrange a situation in which reality is confronted with its transmission. The artist is shown sitting between two TV sets that display the images being captured by two video cameras positioned at different angles. The photographs present the entire setup, enabling the viewer to compare the source gestures with their mediation. Like most of Marcolla’s works from that period, “Dimension 2” investigates conventional poses and gestures reproduced by instruments of mass media propaganda. D.M.
