It’s with justifiable frequency that Daniela Hammer-Tugendhat (author of “The Visible and the Invisible”) is hailed as “a pioneer of feminist art historiography.” She has introduced countless young people to painting and to art in general by way of her initially simple-seeming invitation to gather some initial impressions without any prior knowledge, describe THESE impressions, and then verify them in light of the respective artworks.
