Untitled 1 / Bez tytułu 1, 1994
This video documents a performance amidst a small, intimate audience in which the artist undresses and then wraps various extension cords around his body, plugging them into power strips with sheets of paper placed between plug and socket. By also pulling the cable around his testicles and penis and by gagging himself, elements of auto-eroticism and SM practices are brought into play. The artist thus refers to the extreme body art practices of his predecessors and adheres to the context of 1990s Polish body art such as that of his colleagues Artur Żmijewski or Katarzyna Kozyra, who initially used their own bodies as vehicles for addressing individual concerns.
